The office of the Chief Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities (CCPD) is a part of the Disability Division under the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment
. The Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment is entrusted with the welfare, social justice & empowerment of the disadvantaged and marginalised section of the society viz, Scheduled Caste, Minorities, Backward Classes, Disabled, Aged Persons, Street Children and victims of Drug Abuse etc.
The basic objective of the policies, programmes, law and institution of the Indian welfare system is to bring the target groups into the mainstream of development by making them self-reliant.
"Approach to Rehabilitation"
Rehabilitation is high on the agenda of the Government. A number of schemes, programmes and projects are supported by an infrastructure network of the Disability Division in the Ministry.
